Inspired by the pearl—the treasure hidden within an oyster shell that is the traditional 30th anniversary gift—the 30th annual show highlights antiques and arts that have something to hide. Come look for secret drawers, optical illusions that fool the eye, objects that magically metamorphosize from one function to another, and faux finishes masquerading as something precious. The reasons behind these acts of deception maybe serious, such as a tea caddy with a compartment for a valuable silver tea spoon; whimsical, such as a snuff box in the shape of a shoe; practical, such as a side table that unfolds into a set of library stairs; or aesthetic, such as beautiful flowers made out of painted porcelain. Drawn from private collections around the Bay Area and participating dealers, the treasures on display will surprise and amuse with their intriguing secrets!.
