CAREER EXPLORATION PROGRAM
ADVISOR

Enterprise for High School Students is a non-profit agency founded in 1969 to assist San Francisco high school students with school-to-work transition. We provide a variety of services and programs that assist youth to develop job skills, find employment opportunities, and explore career interests.

Career Exploration Program Description: 

Career Exploration Program (CEP) is a summer internship program for high school juniors and seniors in San Francisco. For seven weeks the students will work as interns in a career field of their choice.

Objective: 

To support students in their summer internship by providing advise to the students, acting as a liaison for the site supervisor and offering feedback to the program coordinator.

Duties:

  • Advise a group of three to four students for the summer program (seven-weeks in length)
  • Become familiar with students’ supervisors and internship placements by  conducting at least one site visit to their internship placement
  • Attend five summer workshops for youth (participate in activities and help facilitate small group discussions during the workshops)
  • Read and provide feedback in students weekly journals
  • Help students with problem solving any difficulties that may arise during the internship
  • Act as a positive role model for students
  • Help students recognize their strengths and abilities
  • Act as a resource, helping students obtain information regarding colleges, careers, and future planning strategies if/when a student needs it

Qualifications:

  • Interest in working with young people
  • Willingness to be interested and supportive of student’s activities, goals and expectations
  • Ability to facilitate student and site supervisor’s relationships
  • Group facilitation skills are helpful, but not required

Time Commitment:

Advisors will need to commit approximately 4 hours per week during the summer from June 18 to August 3, 2007. Advisors must be able to attend 5 workshops over the course of the summer. The dates are: 6/14, 6pm to 8pm (Student Orientation); 6/27, 7/11, 7/26, and 8/3 from 600pm –   8: 00pm. (Advisors will also attend an advisor orientation which will be held during the first week of June). Advisors must be able to conduct a site-visit within the first two weeks of the program. All internship sites are in San Francisco.
